The Effect of Senioritis on Poly’s Seniors

Seniors aren’t you ready to be done? The last lap of senior year is finally approaching and it is taking a senior toll on our seniors. Seniors every year struggle with one thing: senioritis.

The missing classes, staying home, laziness and procrastination is officially taking over. According to our research, a study by Omniscient found that 78% of high school seniors experience senioritis. Which is Causing a decline in motivation and academic performance, it often leads to procrastination, missed assignments, and lack of engagement in class. Many Poly seniors, specifically the class of 25, are going through it. When talking to Sanaa Purdie, Class of 25, she said “Senioritis hit me around November- January, I was very unmotivated and always slept as soon as I got home.” Also, when talking to senior Denim Young, “I knew I had senioritis when I stopped feeling like doing work.” Seniors may feel mentally exhausted after years of rigorous work, causing them to lose focus during their final months.

This drop in motivation can result in lower grades, missed opportunities, and even revoked college admissions, making it crucial for students to find ways to stay focused and finish strong. Even those who would never expect it to happen, it is. We are almost done with the third quarter, it will only get easier to fall behind. The seniors have to keep it together, keep getting those assignments done and keep your attendance up. They all have come too far to just let it all go now. Luckily, there are resources around to help the process go by smoother. There are writing centers to help the seniors get in essays and things of that nature for scholarships, as well as completing FAFSA and other documents. Along with parrot time given for them to catch up on missing work and talking 1on1 with teachers.

Lastly, one that not many know about is Kitty Hawk National Honors Society that is a tutoring program run by JROTC, if interested ask your local cadet and/or stop by Colonel Marchiori’s office (151) to ask for help. As you enter this last stretch, stay calm and remain focused on the goal. Don’t forget all you have done to get this far and let yourself finish strong.
